Andrew and I were fortunate to spend a magical year with The Dragonflies class at the former Discovery Woods in 2012-2013.  We spent a school year playing and building with loose parts on our adventure playground, among other wonderful pursuits.

The children used pipes, fittings, pallets, ropes, pulleys, bricks, stones, crates, lumber, ladders, sticks and all kinds of loose parts to build with.  Their constructions include forts, three story treehouses, water moving machines, rickety bridges, zip lines, ladders, suspended forts, rope swings, rope ladders, hotels, fairy houses, bath tubs, cities, ala Roxaboxen, and today, an obstacle course.

Come take a peek at some of their “rickety bridges”.  Advocate for Adventure Playgrounds with loose parts and Risky Play!

These experiences build the new age Design Thinkers, developing critical thinking, creativity and problems solving through play.
